Progress of constituency projects impress MP
13 Jan 2019
Member of Parliament for Francistown East, Mr Buti Billy said he is impressed with the progress of the projects funded with the P10 million constituency funding.
Speaking during a tour of the constituency project recently, the MP noted that although there were challenges, the majority of the projects from the year 2017/18 were complete, while projects for 2018/19 were done on paper awaiting implementation.
He commended the team coordinating the constituency projects for a good job.
Mr Billy however said there was need to engage a coordinator to oversee all the projects to ensure there is accountability for delays that may occur.
He said he recently met with ward development committees in his constituency to discuss the need to come up with projects that would create employment and generate income for the constituency.
For his part, the principal community development officer at Francistown City Council, Mr Alec Kgangmotse explained that the constituency projects were also aimed at addressing unemployment within constituencies as the tendering model used was restricted to constituents.
He further observed that projects had been running smoothly with minor challenges that where beyond their control.
Some of the projects within Francistown East include construction of a WDC office block and storeroom at Pelotelele ward with an estimated value of P300 000 as well as paving of a shopping complex and kgotla at Itekeng ward with an estimation of P107 050.
Other projects include construction of storm water drainage at Satellite ward estimated at P190 000 and paving of Ikhutseng Primary School that were estimated to cost P340 000 as well as installation of tower lights at Donga Parks at P390 000. ENDS
