Search for drowned man still on

08 Jan 2019

Botswana Defence Force (BDF) scuba divers and the Botswana Police Service search team are still searching for the body of a 35-year-old man of Sebina who drowned in the Tati River four days ago.

The search team has now covered the river from Game Shopping Complex, where the victim is reported to have drowned, up to Matopi village where the river empties into Dikgatlhong Dam.

There is no hint about his whereabouts although the recovery team has been trying to conduct the search as quickly as possible.

The victim drowned on January 3 at around 11am when the man and his friend was trying to cross the river from Somerset Extension to Block One.

Kutlwano Police Station Commander Superintendent Neo Serumola said in an interview that they have now engaged members of the general public to assist in the search.

He said that Tati River is known to be ‘a bit unpredictable’ because it looks calm and slow-moving, and is shallow in some areas with deep pits in the riverbed in some places, something he stated could be risky.

A family spokesperson, Mr Moses Mogorosi said the man and his friend left home to look for some menial jobs in the town centre.

He explained that according to the friend, they had some discussions about the water level at the pocket where the deceased drowned.

He said the friend further informed them that the deceased experienced some difficulty in swimming  and disappeared beneath the water surface. Ends
