The process of building the Issac Makwala Sports Complex is at tendering stage and construction is expected to start next month.
Speaking during the Isaac Makwala Challenge Football Tournament on January 5, Tutume Sub-district chairperson, Ishmael Mokgethi said government had allocated P5 million for construction of the sports complex.
Mokgethi, who is also councillor for Tutume North, said P1 million had already been dispatched for bush clearing of the site.
He applauded the Makwala challenge committee for engaging in the project, adding that they had done a remarkable job of uniting the people of Tutume and giving support to Makwala.
For his part, the chairperson of the Isaac Makwala Challenge Football Tournament, Shathane Mbaakanyi said the tournament was an initiative of four football clubs of Goedzwa, Tjilagwane, Tjinyune Babili and Tjivulamabgwe.
He said members of the four clubs felt the need to honour their fellow villager following his performance at the World Athletics competitions last year.
He said the four teams have also agreed that 30 per cent of the proceeds should be donated to Makwala while 70 per cent should be donated to the community.
Mbaakanyi said 70 per cent of last year’s proceeds, which was P12 000, was used to buy sport equipment for six primary schools in Tutume.
Goledzwa Football Club emerged this year’s champions after narrowly beating Tjivulamabgwe through penalties. ENDS
