Gerald Estate WDC to have mall
03 Jan 2019
The MP for Francistown West, Mr Ignatius Moswaane, says a decision has been made to build a shopping complex in Gerald Estate using the P10 million Constituency Fund.
Addressing a kgotla meeting in Kanana ward recently, Mr Moswaane explained that the shopping mall would be owned by the ward development committee (WDC).
He said a plot for the project had been secured and that the next constituency fund would be channeled towards the project.
Mr Moswaane said Gerald Estate had for the past 25 years been without a shopping mall and this affected residents financially.
The MP also briefed the residents on the amendment bills that were discussed in the last Parliament session and they included the Stock Theft Amendment Bill.
He said parliamentarians agreed to increase penalties against stock thieves because livestock was the backbone of every Motswana.
Mr Moswaane also complained about the long time taken by Social and Community Development office in Gerald Estate to assess people.
He also said some community projects were cancelled but no communication was given to the ward development committee.
Mr Moswaane also briefed residents on the issue of wildlife and human conflict, saying government was working around the clock to solve the issue.
He appealed to residents to use government programmes and policies to improve their living standards, saying they should not look down upon programmes such as Ipelegeng.
He also appealed to residents to work hand in hand with the government to speed up developments and cautioned that “Rome was not built in Day”.
Francistown district commissioner, Ms Chabongwa Matseka, promised residents that she would address the issue of the Social and Community Development office in Gerald.
She explained that though they held held meetings with the office, the matter needed to be revisited. ENDS
