Aerobics clubs re-register association

After collapsing four years ago due to internal challenges, aerobics clubs have decided to re-register an association with Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC).
In an interview at an aerobics marathon recently, Active Aerobics club instructor, Pini Morake explained that they had difficulties in having their association gain recognition in the past because they were not a competitive sport.
Morake said this time they were adopting a strategy on how they could be registered since they aimed to promote sports and fitness, which were key aspects for society in general. Through the association, she said, they would be able to have a calendar of events which would be known around the country.
That, she added, would prevent situations where club events clashed, adding that their marathon was held annually and might be hosted by any club at any time. “Any club may decide to host the marathon and with a calendar of events, the clubs will be scheduled on a rotational basis,” she said.
Furthermore, she explained that they had clubs around the country and during the marathon, they came together to motivate and encourage each other on the importance of eating well and exercising.
She stressed that they usually took their members through three different categories of exercises, during which participants were judged based on their performance. Morake said they were currently only vocal in recruiting members and relied on their current members to woo new ones to clubs.
She was happy that the recruitment exercise had worked for them saying their numbers had grown. ENDS
