President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi and First Lady Neo Masisi spent new year’s eve with residents of Sehunou.

The President and the First Lady handed over gifts in the form of food hampers to families in the settlement.

The gifts were categorised into hampers for the elderly, family men and women while children received goodies such as sweets, biscuits and drinks.

When wishing residents of Sehunou well for the new year ahead, President Masisi explained that spending time and giving out gifts to residents of Sehunou and other parts of the country was a way of acknowledging that 2018 had come to pass and to celebrate the new year.

He said they decided to visit some places in the country and share gifts as ‘we step into 2019 as a united people’.

This, he said was to show love and inspire ‘goodness’ among Batswana.

For his part, Kgosi Madala Gabagopolwe of Sehunou acknowledged the President and the First Lady for visiting Sehunou to share gifts.

However, Kgosi Gabogopolwe requested for a clinic to be set up in his village, and called on government to consider increasing the number of police officers in Sehunou.

He acknowledge government programmes set up to empower Batswana and for the RADs school and hostel in Sehunou and for other developments that have taken place in Sehunou.

MP for Serowe South, Ms Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi thanked President Masisi and the First Lady for visiting Sehunou on the eve of 2019 and give out hampers to residents.

She commended President Masisi and the First Lady for the good gesture, noting that while other Presidents are at their homes with their families at this point in time, President Masisi chose to move around the country and spend time with Batswana and share gifts with them.

She said issues raised by Kgosi Gabogopolwe would be handled accordingly during a kgotla meeting scheduled for the village during course of the year.

She applauded residents for attending the event in large numbers, noting that their attendance indicated respect for President Masisi. Ends
