Lion Club honours Malebang

03 Dec 2018

A learned professional in emotional intelligence and financial literacy, Ms Thandi Malebang has been indicted in the Francistown Lions Club.

The Francistown based motivational speaker  was indicted by the out-going district governor 2018/2019, Lion David Saunyama at a glittering special dinner organised by Lions Club of Francistown at the weekend.

Lions Club district governors are empowered by their mother body, Lions Club International, to indict any person of their choice who can fully participate in the daily activities of the club.

“I am empowered by Lions Club International to indict Thandi Malebang and I now declare her a lion and a president of the special Lions Club of Francistown,” added Mr Saunyama.

Ms Malebang, a former police officer turned motivational speaker, agreed in her oath that she would render all her services to the club and attend all zone meetings without fail as well as not to bring the organisation into disrepute.

Meanwhile, Mr Saunyama said Lions Club International was the best service organisation on humanity the world over and called on Lions Club Francistown to embark on fund raising activities in order to help the less privileged members of the society in the region.

He also challenged foreigners residing in Botswana to establish or form their own special lions club and augment the little money that Lions Club of Francistown had raised.

He also appealed to members of the Lions Club in the region to rally behind the incoming district governor 2018/2019, Lion Tshidi Serema, who will be taking the reigns from him.

For her part, Lion Serema, who is also the first vice district governor 2018/2019, appealed to women in the region to join the club in large numbers.

“Membership should grow and can only grow if we women join the club in large numbers. We should also retain those whom we have and re-recruit those who left the club,” she added.

She also encouraged women to inspire for leadership positions in the club because women bring along strong attributes such as capacity building.

Lion Serema, who will be the first Motswana to hold that position in the region, wondered why the region had many women, but only a few were members of the club.

She further stated that Lions Club International had programmes and policies that attracted and empowered women and their families as well as programmes for young people.

In her welcome remarks, regional chairperson, Lion Sylvia Muzila  also underscored that Lions Club International had helped needy people. ENDS
