Naledi race promotes circumcision

03 Dec 2018

The annual Naledi Horse and Donkey Race is billed for December 15.

Speaking in an interview, event organiser Kagiso Benson said the race would be held at Naledi fields on the outskirts of Jwaneng.

The event organiser said they have incorporated a safe male circumcision campaign into the event as a way of encouraging males to circumcise.

For one to participate in the race, Benson said one should have circumcised while female participants were expected to register through family members or friends who had been circumcised.

“The race is open to all sexes. If a woman wishes to get engaged in the race she could bring forth her child or partner to get circumcised,” said Benson.

He explained that a single circumcision got one horse or donkey registered in the race, and that it was upon individuals to recruit more people to register.

Benson also noted that the races would be in 100m, 400m and 800m categories.

However, he said equestrians could participate in all the races depending on the strength of a horse.

He said the winner of the 100m race would win P1 500 whereas the 400m winner would pockey P3 500 while  the 800m winner would walk away with  P4 500.

He urged more people to enter the race to help increase the number of people who got circumcised. ENDS
