Masisi rallies Tsabong farmers

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has informed Tsabong residents that he has secured a deal with Seychelles for Botswana to sell them meat, especially small stock.
President Masisi therefore appealed to livestock farmers in Kgalagadi South to produce more as exporting meat to the Seychelles would only be possible if they produced a large numbers of animals to meet the demand.
Speaking at a kgotla meeting he addressed recently, Dr Masisi advised the gathering to take advantage of the services provided at Lobu Farm on small stock farming. He said the farm boasted personnel qualified in various fields and courses were offered free of charge at the farm.
Dr Masisi said the sector could benefit many because with the envisaged small stock abattoir, Batswana could benefit from engaging in businesses such as transportation, packaging and selling of end products.
He encouraged them to brand meat products produced from the region.
President Masisi challenged residents to assist with creating employment because government alone could not manage.
Earlier on when welcoming guests, Kgosi David Toto II decried the sorry state of some roads in the district, particularly Kokotsha-Tsbong road, which the President said government was well aware of.
He said work was being done on some sections of that road to improve it.
“Makopong-Werda stretch, which is currently under construction, will cost over P20 million while Omaweneno-Tsabong is estimated at P30 million plus, adding that the road would play a vital role in transporting goods once the abattoir is open.
He informed residents that legislators were discussing some bills among them livestock Bill which sought to increase penalties for stock theft. ENDS
