02 Dec 2018
Parliament has been told that there is no Information Technology (IT) officer stationed at the Department of Road Transport and Safety (DRTS) office in Letlhakane.
Responding to a question in Parliament, Minister of Infrastracture and Housing Development, Mr Vincent Seretse said the office was covered by the regional IT officers based in Palapye. Mr Seretse, who was responding on behalf of Minister of Transport and Communications, stated that the duties of the IT officer within the DRTS included configuration of hardware and software, Systems End-User support, End-User training, Network trouble shooting and Local Area Network (LAN) support.
Mr Seretse said the ministry would consider posting an IT officer to the DRTS office in Letlhakane citing that posting an officer there was not critical and this might render the officer being underutilised.
He said because of general limitation of resources, he could not state when they would have a dedicated IT officer based in Letlhakane as such, the ministry would consider exploring other options such as sharing the services of an IT officer with other government departments in Letlhakane.“In mitigation of any adversity, the DRTS will in the interim provide training to officers in Letlhakane on the basis of restoring the network after telecommunications and power outages. East MP Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked if it was true that there was no IT officer in Letlhakane and if so, to state the duties of an IT officer within the DRTS office.
He also asked the minister to state the delays experienced while awaiting for the officer from Palapye and how it affects the clients. The minister was further asked if he would consider posting as IT officer to Letlhakane to assist during network failures. Ends
