President Masisi appoints new diplomats

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has appionted new diplomats to Ethopia, South Africa, Kenya  and Sweden.

A press release from the Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation says Mr Zenene Sinombe has been appointed Botswana’s Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union. Mr Sinombe is currently Botswana’s High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa, with concurrent accreditation to Lesotho, eSwatini and Madagascar. 

The release says he has served in various capacities in the Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation at both headquarters and its missions abroad such as Brussels, Belgium, and New Delhi, India. 

Mr Sinombe replaces Ambassador Mmamosadinyana Molefe who has been appointed deputy permanent secretary in the ministry.

The release further says Mr Lameck Nthekela has been appointed Botswana’s High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa. 

Mr Nthekela is currently serving as Botswana’s Ambassador in Sweden and also accredited to the Nordic countries, Baltic States, Poland, Ukraine, the Russia Federation and the Holy See. 

“Mr Nthekela has served in various capacities in the then Ministry of Commerce and Industry] until he was deployed to the then Botswana Export and Development Agency (BEDIA). While at BEDIA, he was deployed to serve at the Botswana High Commission in London, United Kingdom, as commercial ttaché.” 

Mr Duke Lefhoko has been appointed Botswana’s High Commissioner to Kenya and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme and the United Nations Habitat.

Mr Lefhoko has served as Member of Parliament for Shoshong constituency from 2004 to 2009.  He was also Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Education and appointed in the same capacity to the then Ministry of Trade and Industry.

 Mr Lefhoko has also served in the diplomatic service as Botswana’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Namibia from 2010 to 2013. He will be replacing Mr John Moreti who has been appointed chief of protocol.

Furthermore, the release says Ms Chandapiwa Nteta has been appointed Botswana’s Ambassador to Sweden. Ms Nteta has served in the Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation in various capacities both at headquarters and the missions.

 She served in Beijing, China, and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. 

While at headquarters, she was deployed as deputy chief of protocol, a position she has held to date, The appointments will effect upon assumption of duty. ENDS
