Ghanzi Sub-council to enforce anti-littering law
29 Nov 2018
In a move to curb the growing culture of littering in the community, Ghanzi East sub-council will soon enforce anti littering laws.
Speaking prior to a litter picking exercise at Chobokwane on November 28, Ghanzi East Sub-council chairperson, Mr Dichaba Thupe stated that the growing frustration of littering left them with no choice, but to enforce the anti-littering law soon.
“This is not a threat, the law is there and we will start enforcing it next year,” he warned.
Mr Thupe urged community members to report the perpetrators so that they could face the music, adding that ‘I am told some council staff are littering, I urge you to report them”.
He said the state of litter and waste forced them to leave sub-council business and travel about 110 km from Ghanzi Township to conduct litter picking at Chobokwane.
He said to achieve a litter free environment, communities should make it a personal commitment to clean their environs and dedicate a day in a month for litter picking.
Mr Thupe said clean up campaigns should be the agenda of every community leadership, adding that the community should teach children that a dirty environment could spoil their health.
Kgosi Txhaoxo Katshau and Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Xhuno Moletle expressed gratitude to the sub-council staff for finding it fit to clean the village, adding that it was a challenge for them to keep their village clean at all times. ENDS
