Water utilities faces challenges
28 Nov 2018
Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) says it is challenged in supplying Shashe Mooke with water, owing to an outdated water scheme and surplus water demand over supply.
Francistown WUC water works superintendent, Mr Ndimi Shana told members of Tonota sub-council that the village used to receive water flow early in the morning or late in the evening.
However, he said for the past four months, WUC has not been able to supply water at all through its pipeline scheme, adding that as a temporary measure, they resorted to a bowsing truck.
Although they have been able to supply Shashe Mooke with bowsers, he said there is yet another challenge that has prevented the corporation from supplying water to all its customers as Borolong, Jamataka and Natale are being serviced by the same bowser.
“We have a problem because we have only one bowser that supplies all those villages, this has made us to supply only certain institutions like schools and clinics,” he explained.
Despite the challenge, Mr Shana said all hope is not lost since they have requested for more bowsers so that they can easily service affected villages, adding that the first bowser is expected by end of this month.
With regard to progress of Mathangwane transfer scheme upgrade, Mr Shana said the design review and tender documentation for the proposed upgrade has been awarded with a duration period of six months.
He said the preliminary design stage process was ongoing, while the technical design has been submitted.
Mr Shana said they have realised that using one scheme to supply all villages was a challenge, as when a problem arises, all the villages are affected.
Therefore, he said they settled for the option of creating water points at each village, adding that the scheme wuld be supplied by a main supply tank situated at Gerald Estates in Francistown.
Borolong councillor, Mr Fletcher Mothubana commended the corporation for the work done and its constant engagement providing progress on water supply issues. Ends
