Youth companies benefit from ministry

Minister of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo says the total amount awarded to youth companies since April 2017 is about P8 million.

He said 245 tenders worth about P4 million were awarded to youth companies benefiting from reservation of micro procurement (local procurement scheme presidential directive CAB 19(B) 2013.

He said the ministry awarded maintenance projects worth over P4 million to 27 youth companies in line a savingram of May 2014 on reservation of maintenance.
Mr Mabeo said 277 young persons with vocational skills in construction were currently engaged by the ministry for maintenance services to brigades, and that to date the total expenditure on their remuneration was about P5 million

He explained that two youth companies out of a total of 27 engaged in maintenance projects had benefitted from the price preference (Local Procurement Scheme Presidential Directive CAB 19 (B) 2013, and that the highest tender awarded to youth companies was about P3 million and the lowest P196.

Specially elected Member of Parliament, Mr Mephato Reatile had asked the minister to state the names and number of youth companies that had benefitted from his ministry, including parastatals and independent departments under government.

He also wanted the minister to state the lowest and highest amount awarded for each tender. ENDS
