Settlement recognised in 2017

27 Nov 2018

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso says Makgaba settlement was recognised in 2017 and that bogosi is at the level of headman of arbitration.

Ms Tshireletso said the settlement was recognised as a Remote Area Development Settlement Tertiary IV in 2017 through a presidential directive.

She said in May this year, Mr Kesekile Rebagago was appointed headman of arbitration for Makgaba which was also the effective date for his payment.

She said there were no other individuals who were identified as headmen of arbitration as Makgaba Settlement did not have any other wards except for the main ward.

Ms Tshireletso said she was not aware of the procedure of installing kgosana at Makgaba settlement as it was the prerogative of morafe at the ward level.

Boteti East MP, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had wanted the minister to appraise Parliament on the status of bogosi in Makgaba; when it was confirmed a settlement, who appointed the kgosi and when he would be paid.

He also wanted to know the procedure which was followed when installing the kgosana. ENDS
