15 live with disability in Makgaba

27 Nov 2018

Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Machana Shamukuni says there are 15 people with disabilities in Makgaba settlement, and that nine are males while six are females.

The number consists of 12 people with physical disabilities and three with psychiatric conditions.

Mr Shamukuni told Parliament that eight of the disabled received food baskets while seven were beneficiaries of the disability cash transfer allowance.

He noted that one of the beneficiaries was assisted with crutches in June 2018 and had been recommended for fitting with an artificial limb.

He added that he was currently booked for assistive device prosthesis (artificial lower limb) fitting at Mahalapye hospital for May 2019 due to a long queue.

Furthermore, Mr Shamukuni said the Letlhakane officer responsible for disability had been transferred and there was currently no rehabilitation officer in Boteti.

He said there was, however, a health care auxiliary assigned to provide medical rehabilitation services while social rehabilitation services were provided by the S&CD office in the Boteti Sub-district Council for the entire district.

Boteti East MP, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister to state the number, gender and social status of people living with disabilities in Makgaba settlement.

Mr Lelatisitswe had also asked the minister if it was true that a certain man was given crutches 10 years ago and had never been replaced. ENDS
