Letsebe quits BOTESSA

Botswana Tertiary Student Sports Association (BOTESSA) president, Herbert Letsebe has resigned.
Letsebe was elected last year at the association’s annual general meeting, beating the then incumbent Moffat Ramasotla with 18-8 votes.
He confirmed in an interview that he had tendered his resignation due to ill health.
In August, he said he had a heart attack scare while at the University of Botswana gym, which later led to failed thrombolysis.
“I was rushed to Gaborone Private Hospital and was later transferred to Bokamoso Private Hospital ICU, where most of the care and recovery took place. I was briefly transferred to Scottish Livingstone Hospital and later back to Bokamoso until I was discharged on the September 28,” he said.
Letsebe said he was advised by the doctors to stay away or avoid involvement in anything strenuous and demanding for a minimum of six months to a year.
He said he would forever be indebted to the BOTESSA community for supporting him during his short stint at the helm of the association. “To be honest, I leave BOTESSA a happy man, although there were challenges here and there, I managed to deliver some of my promises as a president,” he said.
Letsebe said he managed to sign a P3 Million sponsorship deal with First National Bank Botswana and technical sponsorship with Dlala.
He said he had promised to increase student activities, hence the inaugural BOTESSA Bracket championship that took place in Selebi Phikwe and the introduction of the rugby tournament.
His other achievements, he said were the successful hosting of both the Confederation of University and Colleges Sports Associations annual general meeting and Games in Botswana.
Also, he said he had successfully hosted different coaching clinics for among others, softball, netball and swimming.
BOTESSA public relations officer, Duncan Segabo has confirmed receipt of Letsebe’s resignation letter.
He said though his leadership skills were still needed, they had accepted his resignation, given that he was advised to take it easy by doctors after looking at his condition.
He however said once he recovers, the executive committee would use him in different platforms of the association. ENDS
