Maun East legislator encourages regional partnerships
22 Nov 2018
Maun East Member of Parliament, Mr Konstatinos Markus has encouraged the Central and North West districts to have a cordial relationship for the betterment of their region.
Mr Markus said this when officially opening a retreat for the Tutume and Tonota sub-districts in Maun on November 21.
He said it was imperative for the local authorities to devote their resources to well performing aspects of economy in their respective regions, adding that successful implementation of the National Development Plan by the local authorities would lead to the realisation of Vision 2036.
Mr Markus said networking was key for the good of the country, adding that the North West District would support its fellow districts at all costs.
Local authorities, he said had a mammoth task of creating their own wealth as well as generating income to complement the government’s revenue support grant, adding that it was possible for them to realise the task through local businesses, community projects, poverty eradication projects and other initiatives.
Tutume Senior Assistant Secretary (SACS), Mr Maipelo Selatolo said one of the objectives of the retreat was to look at their 2018-2025 strategic plan and align it to that of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
He said the strategic plan was important as it drove their annual performance plans.
Mr Selatolo observed that retreats are important to refresh the minds of the councillors.
Councillor Keebonye Mphoyamodimo of Boseja North in Maun said local authorities contributed to delayed implementation of projects due to late submission of motions and failure to follow proper planning procedures. ENDS
