Residents receive reading glasses
21 Nov 2018
About 100 elderly Tlokweng residents were recently assisted with reading glasses.
The event, which was organised by the area Member of Parliament, Mr Kenneth Segokgo, was meant to appreciate the role they played in the society.
Mr Segokgo said sight in some cases was affected by non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, both common among the elderly.
He said it was for this reason that he found it befitting to appeal to private health practitioners resident in Tlokweng to offer free screening and eye testing for the elderly.
Mr Segokgo said knowing how much elderly people loved to read the Bible, providing them with reading glasses would come handy.
He said the gesture was all about compassion and recognising that they no longer had the strength to care for themselves.
More than 300 turned up for the event.
Mr Segokgo said he wished for the exercise to continue in future depending on the availability of resources.
He said government health practitioners would also be invited.
Those who attended appreciated the gesture and acknowledged the importance of regular health screening. ENDS
