Kgabo Mall official opening tomorrow
20 Nov 2018
Set to officially open doors tomorrow(November 22), Kgabo Mall, a shopping centre situated right in the middle of Mochudi, will attract people of different tastes from Mochudi and its environs.
The P80 million property, owned by Motherland Proprietary Limited, a joint venture between Botswana and Chinese citizens, is a living example of how private investment in non-urban areas is vital in uplifting the economy.
Speaking in an interview, the chief developer of Motherland, Mr Lip Ing Song said the shopping mall has 36 shops, which offer different amenities.
Ms Song highlighted that the mall would have a food court where different restaurants would offer a variety of cuisines for family outings. She added that for the first time in Kgatleng District, there would be a lounge within the mall at the entertainment section for those who enjoy stylish nightlife.
She said the place would also house different retail tenants such as Spar Supermarket, Furnmart, clothing shops, First Capital Bank, BTC Retail shop, BotswanaPost and Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development(MYSC) offices.
In addition, she said there would be a salon, Internet cafe, book shops, pharmacy and private clinic as well as a hardware store.
She revealed that the name Kgabo indicated pride of belonging to the Bakgatla Ba Ga Kgafela tribe.
Ms Song further pointed out that they saw a niche to invest and construct a mall in Mochudi, as the area was far behind in terms of development unlike other major villages.
She highlighted that the estimated 45 000 residents of Mochudi travelled 40km to Gaborone to enjoy decent shopping.
She said the mall would bring a positive economic impact to the people of Mochudi and surrounding areas. She noted that many people were employed during the construction of the mall, adding that more than 200 locals were given different roles during construction from electricians, mechanics, builders, and that a local architect designed and supervised the project.
She said they had already employed 18 locals for different positions in the shopping mall, and that when it officially opens its doors, it would offer employment opportunities to many people as different tenants would offer a variety of services.
She predicted that there would be a property boom around the mall in terms of provision of accommodation, noting that some people working in the mall would prefer to stay nearby to reduce transport costs.
She highlighted that they have started working with the community, especially helping the under privileged, revealing that they organised a sponsored walk to raise funds for the construction of a church building. ENDS
