One of the most wanted house breaking suspects was recently exposed when he was electrocuted trying to steal power cables in Kumakwane in the Kweneng District.

The 34- year-old Thana Ntswe of Newtown ward in Kumakwane had been a wanted suspect since June.

Ntswe sustained injuries when he and others, still on the run,  tried to steal live electric power cables.  

He was allegedly dumped at his girlfriend’s place in bad state by some unknown individuals suspected to be his accomplices.

Thamaga police found him hiding at a place near the village and was taken for medical examination at Thamaga Primary Hospital where he was treated and released.    

Despite the circumstances, the young man was arraigned before Magistrate Rosemary Khuto of Molepolole  to answer for offences he committed before his power cables accident.

Prosecution did not oppose his bail application considering this injuries.

His charges included burglary and theft as well as stealing goods from dwelling houses valued at close to P9 000.

Meanwhile, Thamaga police station commander, Superintendent Moses Kwarare, confirmed the incident, saying investigations showed that Ntswe was a wanted suspect for  offences committed in June.

It was, however, not clear as to what damage could have been caused by the alleged intruders at the BPC sub-station near Kumakwane

“We are hoping to make more arrests in the Kumakwane incident because we discovered two cellular phones, a pair of plyers and screw drivers at the scene of crime suspected to have been used during commission of the alleged offence,” he stated.

BPC’s marketing manager and communications officer, Ms Dineo Seleke, said they had commenced investigations on the matter.

She expressed concern over copper theft from the corporation, citing the recent Molepolole incident where 13 young men aged between 23 and 32 mostly from Old Naledi were brought before Molepolole Magistrate Court for stealing transformer windings worth over P700 000  belonging to BPC in Molepolole a month ago.

Ms Seleke said such incidents were on the increase, adding that such impacted on the corporation’s operations. ENDS
