Marina has back up lab equipment

04 Aug 2013

The Assistant Minister of Health, Mr Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri has told Parliament that Princess Marina Hospital has not had a situation whereby laboratory and X-Ray results were not accessible to doctors for a period in excess of two weeks on account of faulty machines. He said over the past two years, there had never been a time whereby they failed to provide laboratory tests to doctors on account of faulty machines because they had back up laboratory equipment.

As for general radiology, he explained that X-Ray films are availed to patients on the same day. Mr Matlhabaphiri also said in the event that they experienced breakdown of machines, the service was outsourced from CT scan machine, among others. The Member of Parliament for Gaborone Central, Mr Dumelang Saleshando had asked the minister if he was aware that there were numerous instances when doctors at Princess Marina Hospital had been unable to access blood tests results for patients for a period in excess of two weeks on account of faulty machines and that there were similar delays for X-Rays, and if so, how would the situation be addressed.
