Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) over the weekend held national championships preliminaries in Lobatse after successful 17 inter-club tournaments.

The championships had 26 bouts with 13 staged on November 16  as quarter-finals and 13 on November 18 as semi-finals. All boxers who won the semi-finals will be through to the final.

Publicity secretary of BoBA, Taolo Tlouetsile said the tournament was a success despite low numbers of participating boxers.  

He said the number was not what they expected, adding that the tournament gave boxers an opportunity to be selected for the national team hence the need to come in large numbers.

Tlouetsile said they were hoping for a better tournament next year.

He stated that some of the challenges they encountered were lack of sponsorship as well as lack of access to facilities they had wished for, and having to settle for stadium facilities.

The national championships final will be on Saturday. ENDS
