Ministry inspects sites
20 Nov 2018
Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Development, Mr Vincent Seretse has told Parliament that this ministry facilitates local authorities to conduct inspection of building sites to verify that such buildings are being constructed in conformance to the approved drawings.
Mr Seretse explained that this was done in line with the Building Control Act (Cap 65:2), which was promulgated in 1962 together with the Building Control Regulations, which were promulgated in 1981.
Mr Seretse added that the Act required that plans (drawings) for proposed building must be submitted to Local Authorities across the country for perusal, inspection and approval.
Thereafter, these Local Authorities conduct physical site visits at set stages of construction to verify that the buildings were being constructed in conformance to the approved drawings. Member of Parliament for Jwaneng/Mabutsane, Mr Shawn Ntlhaile had asked the minister what steps had been taken to ensure that building safety and regulations for newly built houses and offices are enforced.
