Rotary Club donates to PLWDs

19 Nov 2018

Rotary Club and Wheelchair Foundation UK through Botswana Nurses Association (BORNUS) has donated 17 wheelchairs and Woolworths clothing hampers to the less privileged Bokaa residents.

Speaking during the handover on November 16, the chairperson of Wheelchair Foundation UK Mr Milton Frary said it had always been a pleasure seeing someone smile because of the difference made in their lives.

He said he realised that most people were in need of wheelchairs because of disability and other health problems such as old age and other ailments.

He mentioned that in 2003 he heard that there were 1.3 billion people in need of wheelchairs and he made it his responsibility to bring love and care to those people.

Mr Frary said he came to Africa donating wheelchairs with his wife and expecting nothing back, but a smile and a thank you from the recipients.

He said the wheelchairs had helped improve a lot of people’s lives because  some said they were no longer worms, but butterflies as they were able to show their talent.

Mr Frary said he would forever be grateful for the love that Batswana had as they always gave them a warm welcome through their language that he wished to learn.

He thanked BORNUS for always being a part of his organisation and making sure that the people got all the necessary help they needed. When giving welcome remarks, Kgosi Sue Mosinyi thanked the organisations for bringing love and care to his residents, saying the gesture helped uplift their spirit.

He said the wheelchairs would give them legs to go wherever they want to go and also to attend to community gatherings.

Kgosi Mosinyi said the hampers were an early Christmas gift to the community as the festive season was almost here.

He appreciated the efforts made by the organisations, adding that they were in line with government’s mission of bringing dignity to the less privileged.

He expressed hope that the recipients would use the items to their advantage and also return the favour by also giving back to the community.

The BORNUS representative Ms Anna Makuyana said their association deals with giving back to the communities.

She said the association helped with anything necessities such as food hampers, and clothing.

Ms Makuyana encouraged the community to provide support to those in need as that helped them to have faith and also believe in themselves.

She pleaded with the beneficiaries to take care of the gifts they received and to also pass them to others if they were no longer in need.

She said being appreciative of the little one gets was vital as they would be able to use the items wisely and know their worth in their lives.

One of the beneficiaries Mr Chinamane Peter thanked the donors for the love they have shown. ENDS
