Orange donates syllabic tablets to Dikgonnye school

21 Oct 2018

Orange Botswana recently donated syllabic digital kits to Dikgonnye Primary School through its Digital Schools Programme.

Speaking during the official handover ceremony of the kits and training certificates to teachers at Dikgonnye in the Kgatleng District, Orange Botswana corporate affairs director Ms Lepata Mafa-Ntlhomola said digital education was a faster way of improving education. She said the digital kits have interactive material that would make learners more interested and focused on education.

She said the digital kits could also be used in years to come as the syllabus could be updated in their servers whenever they change without wasting any time in the learning progress.

Ms Mafa-Ntlhomola said the programme was Orange’s way of improving school results by addressing issues that affect learners such as shortage of learning materials.

She said the digital kits contain all subjects’ syllabus for upper classes in order to improve the results and prepare pupils for junior secondary school.

She said 30 primary schools would benefit from the programme and Orange had already handed over the digital kits to Sedibe primary in Damochojenaa and now Dikgonnye.

Further, Ms Mafa-Ntlhomola said an evaluation would be carried out in all beneficiary schools to ensure there is progress and check if there is room for improvement.

Orange donated 50 tablets, 50 headphones and 2 Raspberry PI servers, which can be accessed by Wi-Fi which does not need a projector to work.

Kgatleng Regional Education Centre principal education officer Ms Lindani Monakwana said the digital education was a way of bringing developments to rural areas and also to motivate the learners.

She thanked Orange Botswana for its efforts in helping improve school results.

She further urged the teachers and the learners to use the digital kits wisely so that others can also have an opportunity to use them in future. Ms Monakwana said the digital kits also embrace the government’s Education and Training Sector Strategic Plan 2015-2020 of integrating ICTs into the education sector.

The school head, Mr Sebilo Motlhaping thanked the Orange Botswana team for the joy they brought to the school.

He said with the digital kits, he hoped the results would improve.

Kgosi Kabelo Rakgathi of Dikgonnye thanked Orange Botswana for the gesture, adding that the lives of the pupils would  change because of technology.

He said he believed this would be of great help to the teachers and learners as they would be able to interact with each other.

Kgosi Rakgathi said expressed hope that Dikgonnye alumni and other stakeholders would be motivated to also lend a helping hand to the school. ENDS
