21 Oct 2018

Rajab Mahommed of Mafika Boxing Club continued with his dominance in the ring, as he beat Nonofo Ketlanang of EMG 3-0 during an Interclub competition held at Glen Valley on October 20.

The bout, which was very fast, gave people a ray of hope that boxing can still be an entertaining sport in the country. Mahommed, who fought in the 56kg category, had an upper hand on Ketlanang.

The two boxers gave spectators a good match as they displayed all the boxing techniques in the ring.Ketlanang, who showed little respect for the experienced Mahommed, was let down by his decision making, as he failed to attack his opponents although he had ample chance to do so.

On the other hand, Mahommed adjusted quickly to deal with his opponent who was using the left hand most of the time.

Mahommed admitted in an interview that the bout was not an easy one, adding that his opponent was left-handed and it was difficult to easily win a left-handed boxer.

“A left-handed boxer is very difficult unlike us who use the right hand, so I expected him to give me a difficult time, in the ring,” he said. Furthermore, he said despite the fact that Ketlanang was yet to compete internationally, he had experience in dealing with different situations.

He said he was happy that his opponent gave him a good practice for the upcoming championship.

For his part, Ketlanang said he was happy that he was paired against one of the top boxers in Botswana. He said he did well although he was let down by his finishing technique, given that his opponent was overcoming him in every move. Another interesting bout was in the 49kg category between Kobamelo Molatlhegi of EMG and Prisons Kennedy Sebekedi. Kobamelo won the bout 3-0

The two boxers had shown that Botswana has a great future in the game. They have the potential to bring boxing’s glory days back in the international arena.

In the 60kg, Kefentse Molalapata of Tsholofelo lost 3-0 to Mmoloki Thipe of Prisons, while in 69kg Mmusi Tswiigi and Tshepo Stoffel bout were stopped by the referee in favour of Tswiigi.

In the ladies category, Lethabo Modukanele of UB beat Jennifer Sechi of BMC 3-0 in the 48kg, Rhoda Monna of Glenvalley had a field day against Kimapola Supang of Prisons winning the bout by 3-0. Ends
