Mogoditshane Fighters eye return to elite league
18 Oct 2018
Mogoditshane Fighters assistant coach Tshoganetso Malizimba says they are eyeing promotion to the BTC Premiership at the end of the campaign.
The ‘Samba Boys’ have been blowing hot and cold in the Debswana First Division South League ever since relegating from the top division six seasons ago.
Even though they started the 2018/19 campaign on a wrong footing by losing 2-1 at home to rivals Uniao Flamengo Santos last weekend, former Tasc left-back Malizimba pointed that they were gunning for promotion.
Malizimba, who is assistant to former Tasc teammate and Zebras midfielder Tebogo Mothusi at the ‘Samba Boys,’ described the weekend defeat as a minor hiccup.
“We missed our scoring chances and were also let down by lapses in defence. We are also still looking for combinations. However, our objective is to gain promotion at the end of the season,” he said recently in an interview.
Fighters will be looking to collect their first points of the campaign on Saturday when they face Matebejana in a derby encounter that will kick off at 4pm at Fighters ground.
However, they should not expect an easy afternoon since Matebejana are in confident mood after beating Red Sparks 1-0 last weekend. Matebejana also secured a 1-0 victory in the last derby encounter between the two sides in February.
The entire week two programme of the league will be played at 4pm on October 20, Gilport Lions will be looking to maintain their place at the top of the log when they visit Mochudi Rovers at Rovers ground.
Lions will go into the match in high spirits after beating Modipane United 2-0 last weekend.
In other matches, Jwaneng Fighters will welcome Black Peril at Jwaneng Council Stadium, while Blue Stars entertain Black Rangers at Kgaphamadi Primary School in Ghanzi.
Modipane United will host Red Sparks in Modipane while Uniao Flamengo Santos lock horns with Broadhurst United at SSG. ENDS
