Masisi off to Switzerland for World Investment Forum

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi leaves for Geneva, Switzerland on October 19 to attend the 2018 World Investment Forum scheduled for October 22-25.

A news release from the Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation states that the forum will be held under the theme “Investing in Sustainable Development".

Organised biennially by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the forum is a superlative platform that facilitates policy dialogue among a diverse community of investment stakeholders aimed at influencing investment related policy making, as well as shaping the global investment environment to address 21st century challenges.

It brings together policy makers, including heads of state and government, as well as private sector representatives including CEOs of global companies; international organisations, academia and research institutions; other members of the international investment community, heads of sovereign wealth funds, stock exchanges and civil society.

The president will also have an opportunity to share Botswana’s perspective at the Global Leaders Investment Summit on “Investment in a new era of industrialisation”.

The summit will look into the impact of new industrialisation technology and how best it can be harnessed to advance achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Dr Masisi is scheduled to meet with the president of the Swiss Confederation; heads of United Nations agencies based in Geneva and members of the international investment community among others.

The president will be accompanied by Dr Unity Dow,  Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation, Dr Alfred Madigele, Minister of Health and Wellness, Ms Bogolo Kenewendo, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry and senior government officials.

President Masisi and his entourage are expected to return home on October 26. ENDS
