Deputy permanent secretary, corporate services in the Office of the President, Ms Boikhutso Botlhole says consultations with people with disabilities is paramount in formulating policies and strategies relating to their welfare.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the consultative workshop for People Living With Disabilities recently, Ms Botlhole said this was also vital as Botswana would accede to the rights of persons with disabilities.
She said it was also a milestone that ensured consultation with those stakeholders also contributed an important part in decision making.
Ms Botlhole noted that government alone could not decide on policy issues without involving those who were affected.
She assured participants that she would deliver recommendations of the workshop to the leadership of the Office of the President where coordination of programmes was.
For his part, Professor Tachilisa Balula from University of Botswana (UB) said that the mission of the institution was to create a centre of excellence in Africa and the world in pursuit of its values while encouraging engagement with business, professions, government and civil society.
Professor Balula said partnerships and collaborative efforts allowed the university to contribute to continuing growth and development of various professions.
He said the relationship with UB’s law department, civil society and key stakeholders such as the United Nations Development Programme was symbiotic. ENDS
