Unitrans builds house for needy
17 Oct 2018
Unitrans Human Resource director, Mr Moses Sebolai has called on different stakeholders to play an active role towards assisting the less privileged.
Speaking during a groundbreaking ceremony of a two-bedroomed house worth P180 000 the company is building for Montwedi family in Ranaka on October 15, Mr Sebolai said the needy, just like any Motswana, deserve a dignified shelter to call home.
He said the company saw it fit to come forth as a way to promote compassionate and caring spirit towards disadvantaged members of the community.
The rationale behind the project, he asserted, was to enhance the spirit of team work and volunteerism among employees.
He reminded employees that they are part of the society, and as such needed to give back to the community.
In addition, he said the event was also meant to appreciate the importance of the willingness to serve fellow countrymen who are disadvantaged in life.
Mr Sebolai further explained that shelter was not a want, but a basic need that restored dignity to all human beings and reiterated that government alone could not carry the burden.
As such, he encouraged partnership between private organisations and individuals to assist.
For his part, Moshupa Sub-council senior assistant council secretary (SACS) Mr Isiah Odirile commended Unitrans for a noble gesture in assisting the government in realising its mandate of housing Batswana.
Mr Odirile also pledged council unwavering support to provide all the necessities such as water to ensure the project is a success.
The builder engaged on the project promised to complete it in two months.
In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Molao Modukanele of Kgosing ward said Unitrans’ idea to assist the needy was a commendable job that needed a pat on the back and further explained that the project was a continuation of government’s call to build houses for the needy.
Kgosi Modukanele therefore pleaded with stakeholders to also join hands and assist the needy and to continue what Unitrans has started.
Beneficiary, Ms Orapeleng Montwedi, who is currently staying with a relative, expressed joy that she would soon have a place of her own. ENDS
