Woman dies in road mishap

A 48-year-old woman died on October 17 when a vehicle she was travelling in with four others overturned along the Molepolole/Gaborone road near Mantsho Lands.
Kweneng District Traffic Superintendent, Tuelo Komanyane said the accident happened when a female driver of the vehicle lost control.
The woman, he said, was certified dead on arrival at Scottish Livingstone Hospital in Molepolole, while the other occupants were reportedly receiving medical attention at the time of going to press.
The four occupants, he said, were three females, including the driver and one male passenger. Supt Komanyane said they were still locating relatives of the deceased.
One of the eye witnesses who arrived first at the scene, Mr Othusitse Keobuse, the Rural Metro Fire Services tanker driver, said the incident occurred after the female driver lost control while trying to join the lane after she overtook a number of cars.
The vehicle, he said, was heading to Gaborone when it rolled for about 40 meters leaving one person dead.
Supt Komanyane called on drivers to always exercise caution when using the Molepolole/Gaborone road as it was one of the busiest.
He also raised concern at the number of accidents on that road, saying it was a clear sign that motorists were not taking road safety precautions seriously.
“Due to lack of cooperation by some road users in our area, we are bound to mount sporadic road blocks as well as speed traps in accident prone areas to reduce the re-occurrence of accidents,” he said. ENDS
