Kavazovic leaves Township Rollers
17 Oct 2018
Township Rollers have parted ways with head coach, Nikola Kavazovic through mutual consent on October 16.
The Serb’s departure after 16 months at the helm of the BTC Premiership and Mascom Top 8 champions, came after weeks of speculation that he could be leaving the club.
Rumours have been abound recently that Kavazovic was on the radar of South Africa’s top flight club, Baroka FC.
Kavazovic’s departure was announced through a statement by Rollers chairperson, Walter Kgabung on October 16, who said that the contract was terminated mutually.
“This serves to inform the members, supporters, sponsors, well-wishers of Township Rollers Football Club (TRFC) and football fraternity that TRFC has mutually terminated the contract of head coach Nikola Kavazovic with immediate effect.
The management has taken this decision to respect the dignity of players, technical team, Management, Executive Committee and including President of TRFC.”
Kgabung said the technical team of assistant coach, Leutlwetse Tshireletso and goalkeeper coach, Thabo Motang would look after the team while management was still deciding on a new head coach.
“The development regarding the appointment of a new head coach will be communicated as soon as finalised.”
Tshireletso and Motang would probably take charge when Rollers clash with their old enemies, Mochudi Centre Chiefs on Saturday at UB Stadium.
Kavazovic took over the Rollers reigns in June last year as replacement for Mogomotsi ‘Teenage’ Mpote, and immediately guided ‘Mapalastina’ to the league and Mascom Top 8 Cup double.
He also steered Rollers to the group stages of the CAF Champions League.
He leaves the team perched at the top of the BTC Premiership with 19 points after seven unbeaten matches in the 2018/19 campaign.
Kavazovic became the third coaching change in the BTC Premiership this season, after Philemon Makhwengwe resigned from his role at Prisons XI and Gaborone United ended Stephen Maposa’s interim spell earlier this month. ENDS
