16 Oct 2018

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, First Lady Neo Masisi, Vice President Slumber Tsogwane, Kgosi Kgabosetso Mosielele, former president, Dr Festus Mogae and various cabinet ministers were among thousands of mourners who attended the funeral of

Ms Kgomotso Tshiping-Moahi in Moshupa on October 14.

The late Ms Tshiping-Moahi, 47, who was Dr Masisi’s niece, died on October 3 at Bokamoso Hospital after a short illness.

She was a teacher at Lobatse Senior Secondary School and the daughter of specially elected councillor, Ms Ponatshego Tshiping in Moshupa.

She was described by different speakers as a true teacher who always stood for the truth and was never ashamed of the pupils and her family as well as her workmates.

Dr Masisi’s message of condolence to the Tshiping family, which was delivered by Southern District Commissioner, Mr Mmoloki Raletobana read: “On behalf of the government and the people of Botswana and indeed on my own behalf, I wish to convey to you and your family, our heartfelt condolences and sympathies.’’

Speaking as Ms Moahi’s uncle, Dr Masisi said she was a dedicated person with a colourful track record who deserved to be showered with praise.

He said her passing was not only a loss to the family, but a blow to both the Ministry of Basic Education and the country.

He said the deceased would be remembered for her character and kind hearted nature, adding that she was “loving, passionate and committed to her work. A skillful teacher from whom other upcoming teachers should have benchmarked.’’

Former president, Lt Gen. Dr Ian Khama Seretse Khama also sent a message of condolences to the family, saying Ms Moahi’s death was a loss to residents of Moshupa and the nation at large.

He prayed that the Tshiping family should worship and always trust God, who would relief them from the pain of losing their beloved daughter.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Basic Education, Mr Ngaka Ngaka said the ministry was losing important teachers, which he said was a concern.

He said Ms Moahi built the nation and guided pupils in the right way.

Kgosi Mosielele said teachers were the light of life because they were the ones who taught people how to survive and how to get knowledge, likening them to priests as they moulded people to brighten their future.

He said it was surprising that only kind and hardworking people died fast compared to those who were a burden to society.

Ms Moahi is survived by three sons, her mother and seven brothers. ENDS
