Minister calls on graduates to be optimistic

Limkokwing University of Creative Technology graduates have been encouraged to develop a positive attitude when they face challenges.
Minister of Tertiary Education, Research Science and Technology, Mr Ngaka Ngaka, said this during Limkokwing university graduation ceremony recently.
Mr Ngaka said graduates should continue to take an active part in the affairs of the university adding that would provide a means of support and networking that would come in handy in their immediate future.
He said government had entrepreneurship development programmes, which would enable the graduates to have transformative effect in their lives.
In addition, he said, the private sector had a number of programmes aimed at assisting budding entrepreneurs to settle as early as possible.
These programmes included the Tokafala and the Kgalagadi Breweries’ KickStart programmes which run mentoring programmes and fund enterprises.
“I encourage you to take advantage of these programmes, with the view of building long term, sustainable enterprises of your own. In this manner, you will certainly find means to change the world,” he advised.
Mr Ngaka further commended the university for its globally-oriented education; which he said had prepared graduates for the challenges of the 21st century.
“The establishment of Limkokwing University in Botswana has contributed immensely to increasing access to tertiary education as well as diversifying learning programmes. It has spawned new industries which were not imaginable a decade ago. Due to the University’s focused tutoring, you (graduates) have been seasoned and you are now tailor-made for the market,” he added.
This year, Limkokwing graduated a total of 455 professionals with 13 graduating with a Post Graduate Centre Masters in Communication, making them the first ever cohort in the history of the Botswana campus to graduate with a Master’s qualification.
Of the 455 students, 38 were presented with four Awards of Excellence, recognising them as best students who have made special contributions to the University.
Among these, nine graduates were awarded the President’s Award for Academic Excellence, for having obtained the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in their respective faculties.
As a result, they were awarded a scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree of their choice at the Limkokwing Malaysia Campus for a year. ENDS
