Volleyball league reaches climax

11 Oct 2018

All roads lead to Molepolole Institute of Health Sciences (IHS) where mouthwatering encounters are expected in the Mascom National Volleyball League.

The in-form duo of Police VI and BDF VI men are expected to take their tussle for the 2018 title down to the wire.

The two teams have been fighting tooth and nail to claim the glory.

They are now neck-on-neck at the top with two matches left to complete the league campaign.

Police are the defending champions after winning the title in 2016, with the league not held last year due to lack of sponsorship.

The Lions climbed to the summit of the log with 58 points from 20 matches after beating Mafolofolo 3-0 in Otse on Saturday to signal their intention to successfully defend the title.

However, BDF VI are closely following them with the same number of points but an inferior sets quotient.

The two teams will be engaged in decisive matches in Molepolole this weekend before taking on each other on the final league day next weekend in a potential title decider.

From the 20 matches that they have played thus far, both have won 19 and lost one.

BDF take on fifth placed Spiking Stars on Saturday at 5pm, while Police clashe with fourth placed Kalavango at the same venue on Sunday at 12pm.

In their last five matches BDF beat Yaros 3-0, Desert Kings 3-0, Itekeng 3-1, Kutlwano 3-2 and Prisons 3-2.

Police on one hand romped to straight set victories over Mafolofolo, Mag Stimela, Kutlwano, Yaros and Diphatsa in their last five matches.

BDF defeated Spiking Stars 3-1 in their first round encounter while Police lost 3-2 to Kalavango.

The defeat against Kalavango was the Lions only defeat so far.

In other men’s matches in Molepolole on Saturday, Mafolofolo take on Prisons at 3pm while Desert Kings meet Prisons at 7pm.

Desert Kings also clash with Mafolofolo on Sunday at 10am. Ends
