Public officers key to President roadmap

10 Oct 2018

Public Officers in the Kgatleng District have been encouraged to support President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s roadmap of making Botswana the destination of choice.

When addressing public servants  in Morwa on Tuesday, Permanent Secretary to the President (PSP), Mr Carter Morupisi, said without the support of the public service, the president’s roadmap that entails job creation, would not be achieved.

He said public officers played a crucial role in service delivery.

Mr Morupisi said service delivery was paramount especially in the government drive of wooing investors.

He said measures should be put in place to make it easier for investors to do business in Kgatleng.

Mr Morupisi urged officers to create a business friendly environment that would accord investors an opportunity to settle for Mochudi and surrounding areas thereby creating jobs.

He said government, through Vision 2036, would develop a National Transformation Strategy which would transform Botswana into a knowledge-based economy.

The PSP said the economy should not be based on infrastructure development, but also on enhancement of skills and competency among officers.

Kgatleng, he said, was well known for traditional choirs  especially during festivities and other celebrations and therefore President Masisi would like them to encourage and support such activities.  He encouraged them to create an environment for choirs to thrive, something that he said will create a business platform for small businesses.

He said the president will also like officers to turn the country into an international conference destination of choice and therefore they should know how to prepare and plan for such.

Mr Morupisi further said health and safety at work should be improved and officers should work in an environment  conducive for them to be productive.

He told officers that the revival of the Public Service Bargaining Council was ongoing and it was supposed to be completed by end of September but some issues were to be ironed out first.

Mr Morupisi also said government had taken a decision to allow married couples to live together as per the General Order 12.3 and already close to 1500 applications had been received.

He advised that there would be special cases where the transfer might not favour others especially those on posts that are not anywhere.

In his welcome remarks, deputy paramount chief of Bakgatla, Kgosi Bana Sekai, thanked government for heeding their plea for married couples to stay together.

He said he made the plea during former President Lt Gen Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s farewell in Mochudi and was happy that already government had taken a step for married persons to stay together or closer to each other.

The council secretary for Kgatleng District, Mr Mpho Mathe, thanked PSP for addressing public officers, saying they would share his message with other officers who were not able to attend the meeting. Ends
