08 Oct 2018
Vice President Slumber Tsogwane on Saturday embarked on walkabouts in his Boteti West constituency to check registration progress.
Mr Tsogwane, who visited registration points in Khumaga, Moremaoto, Motopi and Makalamabedi.
used the opportunity to urge members of the public to register for elections so that they could be able to exercise their right to vote for a government of their choice in the 2019 general elections.
He also encouraged Independent Electoral Commission officers to mobilise and sensitise members of the public most importantly the youth as it had been discovered that they registered in small numbers.
In all the polling stations toured, the vice president learnt that the majority of the people who had responded to the call to register were the elderly.
However it was gathered that some could not differentiate between registration for primary elections and general elections.
It was also discovered that a large number of people registered during weekdays rather than on weekends.
Registration officers indicated that people residing in cattle-posts in the periphery of polling stations had not registered in satisfactory numbers. ENDS
