Godiraone Nthompe is the champion of Botswana Life Classic Run 21 kilometers after stopping the clock at 1:08:10.2 on Saturday.
In position two was Sesebo Matlapeng who clocked 1:08:10.5 followed by Tholego Keitshekile who recorded 1:10:03.0
During the race it was Matlapeng who showed determination to win the half marathon, as he led the pack but Nthompe showed his character with a few kilometers left to hit the finish line first.
The duo arrived at the finish line together, but Nthompe had more on the tank as he sprinted to be crowned the new champion.
Nthompe said in an interview that competition was tough, but was happy that he managed to apply some tactics that helped him to win the marathon.
“I enjoyed the course as it was fine, the weather was also favourable with less traffic along the way, so all what I can say is that I am happy,” he said.
Nthompe said his mission was to work extra hard given that he wanted to represent the country at the Doha World Championships next year.
In the 21 km women category, Phatshimo Moikabi clocked 1:49:12.2 to be crowned champion followed by Wame Ntwayakgosi with 1:59:49.1 while on position three was AI Homma with 2:06:06.2. Sylvester Koko stamped his authority in the 10 km category after clocking 31:05.3 beating both Kagiso Kebatshwaretse and Goitsemodimo Mokgalagadi who clocked 32:48.6 and 33:24.8 respectively.
The women category was won by Kefilwe Galeitsiwe with 39:11.3 followed by Matshidiso Tamari with a time of 41:55.6 while Bame Sekgoma clocked 51:44.0 to finish on position three. ENDS
