Technical fields way to go

04 Oct 2018

Acting deputy director in the Department of Skills Development in the Ministry of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development, Mr Olefile Mochotlhi, has urged parents to encourage their children to enroll in brigades.

Speaking during a donation handover in Matshelagabedi recently, he said it was important for children to enroll in technical fields so that they start planning their future.

He said brigades education involved a lot of physical training since most of the syllabus involved practical work, therefore it required one to be physically and mentally fit.

“There is too much laziness amongst our children when working to an extent that foreigners sometimes snatch job opportunities from their hands,” he added.

Mr Mochotlhi noted that over the years, their graduates could not work nor apply the skills they had acquired during their studies.

“Our wish is to see our graduates excel in their fields of study and creating more jobs for others,” he said. In efforts to meet their vision, he said they decided to start by motivating the brigade teachers and principals to be physically and mentally fit in order to influence their learners better.

Mr Mochotlhi said they formed a committee called: Life Skills Entertainment, which involves retired Botswana Defence Force members and the brigades teachers and principals to work together to achieve their vision.

He said hard work, coupled with determination, contribute to better results, adding that their wish is to see their graduates progressing in life.

Mr Mochotlhi said their donation of 100 chairs to the Village Development Community, an LCD television to the village day care centre and a stand fan was part of giving back to the community.

When receiving the donations, Kgosi Polson Fox applauded the committee for their contributing towards development of the village.

He applauded them for also contributing to one of the Vision 2036 pillars of sustainable economic development, saying their efforts will go a long way in helping to develop the community in different ways.

Kgosi Fox urged the community to take care of the goods donated to them and use them appropriately. ENDs
