3 916 trained at poverty eradication workshops
01 Aug 2013
It is the goal of the government to aid all able bodied destitute persons to step out of poverty, says the Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi.
He said government was not rolling out poverty alleviation schemes, but rather a poverty eradication programme. Answering a question in Parliament, Mr Masisi said the total number of beneficiaries trained at workshops in Sehonou, Diphuduhudu, Struizendum and Chanoga was 3 916.
He noted that giving beneficiaries projects was a process dependent on the time when the beneficiaries could undertake the project, in depth technical training, the procurement processes of government and the time of supply of materials to enable the project to operate.
Mr Masisi said efforts were being made to reduce the length of the delays, adding that as of today, over P11 million had been spent on packages for 1 040 beneficiaries who attended the said pitsos.
The Member of Parliament for Gaborone Central, Mr Dumelang Saleshando had asked the minister to state the total monetary value of projects handed over to beneficiaries of the poverty alleviation schemes following the workshops held at Sehonou, Diphuduhudu, Struizendum and Chanoga. ENDS
