WUC praises elders for conservation paying bills

04 Oct 2018

Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) has commended elders for conserving water and paying their bills.

Mr Thabo Ndadi, WUC’s materials works engineer in Tlokweng on Wednesday showered the elderly with praises during the corporation’s tea session held in their honour.

He said elders  played a crucial role in the efficient provision of WUC services noting that it was mostly them who called to report water leakages.

Further, he said elders were prompt in paying water bills as they normally cleared them when collecting their monthly old age pensions.

Mr Ndadi said the corporation valued the elderly’s contribution and considered them important stakeholders.

WUC had therefore placed its hopes for water conservation on the nation’s elders, he said.

Mr Ndadi said the southern part of the country was expected to receive low rainfall this year hence WUC were pinning their hopes on elders to assist in conserving water through prudent management and reporting leakages.

On another matter, he said the corporation was aware of the challenges faced by elders in accessing WUC services such as usage of English which some did not understand.

He said the corporation continued to improve its services to be inclusive of all stakeholders including old age pensioners.

Mr Ndadi said the elders were bound to spread the message of water conservation to the young and therefore WUC would achieve its mandate.

Botswana Post Value Center Manager Ms Barati Sebiriki said her organisation and WUC had a long history of working together.

She expressed gratitude to WUC for having have found time to engage with the customers whom they both served.

Ms Sebiriki said water conservation was an important issue as it had become apparent that water was lost while there was also shortage of water.

She pledged that Botswana Post would continue allowing customers to pay their water bills at its offices countrywide as well as always reminding their service users about the importance of paying water bills.

For his part, South East Deputy District Commissioner Mr Richard Boitshwarelo said government was committed to reducing redtape which hindered service provision.

He said some of the hindrances was caused by government departments and organisations which worked in isolation despite serving the same customer.

Mr Boitshwarelo said the working relations between Botswana Pots and WUC was a clear sign that a lot could be achieve if government departments worked together. Ends
