Francistown given 1 055 residential plots
01 Aug 2013
Francistown City Council was offered 1 055 residential plots for allocation in October 2012, says lands and housing minister, Mr Lebonaamang Mokalake.
Mr Mokalake said no other plots had been availed to the council, but that they would be availed as and when they became available. He also said he was aware that “there are people on the waiting list who applied for residential plots after September 1991, who have not been given plots to date,” adding that it was caused by shortage of available serviced land.
Mr Mokalake said his ministry was exploring the option of availing raw land for servicing in partnership with the private sector or local authorities to ensure allocation of land within reasonable time, “not only in Francistown, but other towns as well.”
Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked the minister when the Francistown City Council would be given residential plots for allocation to applicants, and whether he was aware that people who applied for plots after 16 September 1991 had not been given plots to date.
He also wanted the minister to state plans in place to ensure that allocation of land was done within reasonable time in Francistown. ENDS
