President Mokgweetsi Masisi has bestowed honours to individuals, who contributed to development of the nation and well-being of its people. 

President Masisi bestowed awards to 35 receipients in three categories that included Presidential Order of Honour, the Presidential Order of Meritorious Service and the Presidential Certificate of Honour.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Nonofo Molefhi, said the awards were in accordance with the Botswana Honours Act schedule.

He said the awards were meant to honour distinguished individuals whose selfless service to the country was well documented and recognised.

The awards, he said, were a reminder to all for  the dedication and patriotism Batswana demonstrated over the years to contribute positively towards development of the country through the spirit of self-reliance.

Mr Molefhi stated that the  peace and tranquility that the country prides its self with enabled Batswana to freely persuade their personal dreams and desires in areas that they excelled in hence a variety of honours recipients from diverse sectors including traditional and community leadership, government, the private sector, politics and sports among others.

Among those who received the Presidential Order of Honour were Ghanzi South legislator, Mr Christiaan De Graaff, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environmental, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, Mr Thatoyaone Raphaka, reonwed public officee, Ms Ruth Seretse as well as members of the housing appeal committee.

The toast of the award ceremony was, however, awarding of the Presidential Certificate of Honour award to Mabule Primary School class of 1969 who are renowned for winning the 1969 music completion with their resonation of Seromamowa sa Botswana song.

The song is currently been used as a signature tune to officially lunch the daily Radio Botswana on air broadcasts. ENDS
