27 Sep 2018

Chobe District Council chairperson has applauded the vhealth workforce for swiftly acting to abate the outbreak of diarrhea in the region.

Speaking during at full council meeting in Kasane on September 25, Mr Paul Chabaesele said with the country going through an outbreak of diarrhea, Chobe District seemed to be having it under control, as only 317 cases had been reported for children under five and 128 cases for children above five years.

Out of all these cases, 28 got hospitalised, but were later discharged, he explained.

Further, Mr Chabaesele said there had been no loss of life in the district.

He however advised parents and caretakers to be alert of the outbreak and send their children to the nearest facilities once they noticed any diarrhoea signs.

Meanwhile, Mr Chabaesele raised a concern about wild animals that damage people’s properties and kill their livestock, adding that there had been 54 such reports.

Out of this number, he said 31 were reports on damage to property while 23 were livestock killed by animals, saying all these cases had not been compensated.

Mr Chabaesele said there had been two cases of buffaloes that injured people.

On other issues he encouraged councillors to register to vote and to mobilise the community to register in large numbers because the country had over the years seen a decrease in numbers of people registering to vote. ENDS
