Feedlot allocation governed by common law
01 Aug 2013
Allocation of feedlots is processed under common law grant, lands and housing minister, Mr Lebonaamang Mokalake, has said.
Responding to a question in Parliament from Boteti North MP, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, Mr Mokalake explained that upon submission, applications were assessed and appraised by the District Land Use Planning Units taking into account environmental considerations such as distance from villages, main roads and existing individual boreholes before making recommendations of land boards. Furthermore, Mr Mokalake explained that “feedlotting is a farming enterprise that is possible under the integrated farming concept, provided there is compatibility.”
He also said feedlotting was a subset of integrated farming and hence the two could not be compared. Mr Tsogwane had asked the minister to explain the processes and procedures for the allocation of feedlots and how it compared with the envisaged integrated farming programme. ENDS
