Kgatleng District Council experiences delay in road works
26 Sep 2018
Kgatleng District Council chairperson, Mr Mpho Morolong, has expressed concern over delays in the commencement of road works in the district.
Speaking during the opening of the distict’s full council meeting in Mochudi on September 24, Mr Morolong said it was disturbing that the 2018/2019 financial year projects had not started.
He said the delayed projects included 21 paving projects, making a total of 5.84km across the district.
He highlighted that out of the total, two were complete, three between 40-53 perc ent complete while the rest were yet to start.
Mr Morolong, also councilor for Boseja Central, said the council had decided to procure the materials directly from manufacturers as a way of speeding up this year’s projects and also the 2017/18 financial year spillovers.
He said the district had already secured the supply for interlocking bricks, kerbstones, aggregates and crusher dust through direct procurement to start the projects.
Moreover, Mr Morolong said the delay in the start of the 2018/19 projects already posed doubt as to whether they would be completed on time.
He said though there was a delay in the finalising of this year’s projects proposals, stakeholders should step up their game to ensure that the projects were started soon to make up for lost time.
The chairperson said there had been a delay in commencement of dry grading of gravel roads across the district following breakdown of the council’s motor graders.
Furthermore, Mr Morolong said the three council graders were back on the road and that grading has already started.
He added that the Mochudi-Malotwana detour would also be graded to create a tolerable alternative diversion. Mr Morolong said the Oodi – Matebele culvert was currently at 98 percent and the constructor was currently doing some final touches and site clearance.
He said the council has added to its fleet a tipper truck, already delivered and in use, and a motor grader, which is expected before end of the year through road levy fund.
Mr Morolong said this was a testimony that indeed the council continued to channel more money into the resources that make direct impact to the lives of Kgatleng community. ENDS
