I wish to inform members of the public that I have noted with great concern, shock and disappointment regarding the contents of an offensive story which appeared on page 2 of the Botswana Gazette newspaper on 26 September entitled ‘Morupisi and Magosi trash Khama’s outcry as lies and deceit’.

I wish to state for the record that whilst it is true that I confirmed to the newspaper that I did not advise the former president His Excellency Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama concerning the appointment of Mr Magosi, I would like to categorically highlight the fact that the institution of the Presidency is an embodiment of greatness, respect and decorum. In this context, I have always held the holders of this important National Office with the greatest respect that they deserve.

It is for this reason that I find it totally disrespectful and unacceptable for the Botswana Gazette newspaper to attribute to me, offensive and malicious language that is devoid of the truth in the said article.

To this end, I can only express my deepest regret regarding the manner in which the newspaper story wa reported clearly indicating lack of respect for the Office of the Presidency and in this case the former President.
