Pray for leaders - clergyman
24 Sep 2018
Batswana have been called upon to always pray for the country’s leaders.
In his welcome remarks at a combined church service held as part of the Independence Day celebrations on September 23, the chairperson of Gaborone Ministers’ Fraternal Reverend Reuben Moatlhodi said it was through prayer for leaders that Botswana would continue to be the peaceful country that it had come to be known.
Rev. Moatlhodi said believers from different denominations should not take lightly the instruction God had bestowed on them through the Bible to pray for people in leadership positions.
As for the multi-denominational service that precedes the Independence Day celebration, the pastor noted that the prayers also provided an opportunity for the church to thank God in unison for having led and protected the nation.
Proposing a vote thanks, former chairperson of the Gaborone Ministers Fraternal Rev. Raphael Habibo expressed gratitude for the country’s leaders for the opportunity afforded to the churches to pray together.
Raising another point, Rev Habibo appealed for the combined church services to be moved to a larger venue such as the national stadium as there were many churches in Gaborone.
He also urged church leaders to always attend the combined service whenever a call had been made for churches to congregate and pray together so as to ensure that people attended in larger numbers.
As part of the activities of the combined service, the churches prayed for next year’s general elections, appealing to God to grant Botswana a continued legacy of peaceful elections. Ends ENDS
