Former pupil motivates current crop

A former student at Letlhakane Senior Secondary School (LSSS), Colonel Mpaphi Kenosi says education is the most powerful weapon that one can use to change the world.
Speaking at the school prize giving ceremony in Letlhakane recently, Colonel Kenosi said pupils should focus on developing their capacity and ability to understand their natural talent and strengthen their self-belief.
He said there was need for people to believe in themselves because ‘if you believe in yourself anything is possible.’
Acknowledging that the journey was not easy, he shared with them the values that guided him such as self-discipline, which he said involved time management and self-belief.
Colonel Kenosi told the pupils that as they were living in a global village, they needed to be knowledgeable in a lot of areas such as academics and sport so that they could grab any opportunity which may come.
He also said they should pursue their academic work with strength of mind and enable themselves to meet the challenges ahead.
Colonel Kenosi encouraged pupils to take their studies seriously and maintain discipline in everything they do. He said success for them should be to complete assignments on time and to attend classes.
He thanked the teaching fraternity for taking time to emphasis the ‘Determination is equal to success’ motto, which he said they imprinted in their minds during his time at the school when it was one of the best schools in Botswana.
He said the major problem was that ‘one way or the other we are somehow programmed to focus on our faults rather than our abilities.’
Colonel Kenosi said there were three kinds of people, those who made things happen, those who watched things happen and those who wondered what happened, saying everyone had the privilege of being the driver of their own progress.
He noted that it did not matter where one came from, but knowing where one was and where one wanted to go.
He urged parents to show commitment to the development of their children by sacrificing their comfort. He added that they should bear in mind that if the child made it in future, they would also benefit.
Colonel Kenosi congratulated all pupils who got prizes, saying they inspired him and urged those who did not receive prizes to see this as time to start mapping their way forward.
He thanked teachers and the administration staff for the important and impactful work that they did.
He was a Letlhakane Senior Secondary School pupil 29 years ago, and he is part of the schools alumni group which is supporting the school in kind. ENDS
